Many people want to travel the world. Some even have the necessary finances but never take the initial step because something stops them from doing so, it could be a fear of the unknown as you will be going to new places, meeting new people and learning their culture, language etc. If you are one of those dreading to take the initial step then I would like to say that you need not fear, the world is an awesome place and if you have the determination you can explore much of the world and enjoy your travels. A few pointers are given below:
- Planning is very important, be it finance or itinerary or anything else. As the saying goes, if you fail to plan you plan to fail, so plan your finances first. In this technological age you can get the cost of travel to each place easily, in fact it is right on your fingertips, all you need to do is type what you require on Google and you will get the results. You can collect all the travel costs like stay, food, ticket cost, visa cost etc, add something extra for additional expenses and whatever total you get, you should double it. You can be sure that you will be safe regarding expenses if you do this and have that much money.
- Next plan your itinerary in such a way that you save money. For example in my first trip I was in Europe when I suddenly decided I had to see the Great Migration in Tanzania and I headed there and then returned back to Europe. This was a mistake as I had to spend a lot, ideally I should have gone to Africa first before heading to Europe, so do not make such mistakes and plan well.
- Also in the planning stage itself ensure that your belongings are kept somewhere safe. Since you have decided to live out of your backpack now make sure that the belongings you have accumulated are given away or sold or better still kept in storage. I can suggest storage units Milwaukie where I had kept my things.
- Once you have started your journey you will make a lot of friends, and when friends meet you will have a great time but do not spend too much. Always try to Go Dutch and you will save money. If possible live in hostels and cook your own food, if you like camping you can stay outdoors and you will save.
